Reading levels have been on the decline over the last few years, as many as 20% of UK children struggle with reading and if they don’t nurture the love of reading while they are young, they then struggle to re-engage with any materials. The National Literacy Trust estimates that one in six people in the UK currently have a literacy level below what is expected of an 11-year old, and the country as a whole is continuing to slip down on the International Literacy Rankings.
Naturally, most children will learn to read in school, but sometimes they might associate reading with work, not pleasure. Instead of that lengthy book, why not introduce them to a magazine. A magazine will help cut down the pressure of the pupil struggling with reading hundreds of pages to around thirty.
Through fun small facts, puzzles, games, quiz’s and fun activities; it works towards making learning less of a chore and a more interesting.
Encouraging kids to have good literacy skills is the key to so many other areas including Maths and Science. It is proven that when reading materials about enjoyable topics are available for pupils boosts independent reading.
