About Socialist Lawyer Magazine

It is a lively, sharply-written legal publication that makes no apology for positioning itself on the left politically. Its regular contributors include the well-known radical lawyers Mike Mansfield QC, solicitor Gareth Peirce, solicitor Phil Shiner and Professor Bill Bowring.

It contains comprehensive coverage of the legal challenges to the British government's assaults on civil liberties in the name of the “war on terror”. Other domestic matters featured in recent issues include prison conditions, the treatment of asylum-seekers, and the treatment of children in care.

The campaigning organisations INQUEST and Young Legal Aid Lawyers both write regular columns. Its international coverage is extensive, based on direct testimony from lawyers working to defend human rights all over the world.
